May 2023 Showcase Of Five Poems I've Enjoyed Recently Here On Poem-Hunter....[ Poems; Poets; And A Lot Of Other Things! ! ]

Bri's Intro/Introductory poem:

The dearth [ ' A scarce supply; a lack. ' ] of comments on April's showcase...
has caused me (once again) to question if I'm not in the proper poetry place....
to work my mind madly to come up with yet another little-read shared-poem list...
of poems I liked (mostly by others) . They're good, in case, them, you've missed.

Of course it's my opinion which poems I find to be entertaining for little old me.
But if YOU don't take a look at them, their possibilities for YOU, YOU'LL not see.
Of course, YOU may be 'too busy', and THAT possibility I will not, about you, doubt.
YES! ! ! There are legitimate causes for showcases to suffer a readers' comment-
drought! ! ! !

What's that? ? Do I hear a few diehard readers shout 'Come on Bri, give us MORE! '
Ok, I might, just like can happen when one visits a willing, self-sacrificing WHORE.
And I DON'T even ask for money to do my digging for five poems for me to share.
So, keep your eyes on this poem's page, and someday 5 poems may be THERE! !

Ok, make that 'HERE'! !

By 'new poet' on PH, Sayanika Bhowmik:

Our Campus

In the midst of a sprawling campus wide,
Where engineering students do reside,
There lies a world of learning and thought,
Where knowledge is gained and dreams are sought.

Amidst the classrooms and the labs,
The buzz of chatter and clicking of tabs,
The scribbling of notes and tapping of keys,
Are the sounds of intellect at ease.

The air is filled with youthful zeal,
As students strive to make their mark and seal,
Their place in this world of innovation and skill,
Where the possibilities seem to never stand still.

The buildings are towering, standing tall,
Symbolizing a grandeur that befalls,
The souls that enter these gates of learning,
With minds and hearts ever-burning.

The grassy lawns and blooming flowers,
Are the perfect spot for study and powers,
A place where ideas are born and take flight,
Where creativity and innovation ignite.

So let us revel in this college ground.

By 'old poet' on PH, Jayne Louise Davies. Don't hold it against her....
that she hails from Wales.

Those Little Things

Wild flowers grew where we once played,
The mountain side was our place,
We sat for hours beneath the sun,
That shone upon that lovely space.

For every moment heaven sent,
Lived with joy each passing day,
For time back then so happily spent,
A precious moment in every way.

Those little things are always missed,
For, no others can replace them now
Those splendid flowers soft, sun kissed
That morning dew that graced the ground.

By Clarence Prince, an old PH friend I haven't encountered here in years.
I left in the typo I only noticed as I'm proofreading the poem after submitting it.

A Poetic Prayer! ! !

Lord as we look to Thee today
Protect us from any temptation
And lead us in ways of soberness
That we will do all things righteously
Turn us away Lord from doing wrongs
We need your guidance everyday
Lord as we look to Thee today

We are weak but You are strong
We need Your help to take us along
Help us according to Thy words
Allow Thy words to work for us
It's for goodness' sake we truly lust
And in Thee we've placed our trust
Lord as we look to Thee today

We are looking to You for enough
Give us each day even just enough
We know all Your words are true
Upon Thy promises we will rely
Then help us this day to get by
We know You hear our every cry
Lord as we look to Thee today

Pour out great blessings down to us
So that upon Thee we will focus
By which You will be glorified
And our souls will be satisfied
According to Thy words we pray
Suply all our needs without delay
Lord as we look to The today.

By Susan Williams, a veteran of PH, ... and a horse-lover. [ PH lists this as a poem in their 'Funny' category of poems. It is NOT funny. ]

An Abundance Of Hope

I suppose it is an adventure
to NOT fall off a chair,
but I was seeking
more positive adventures than that.
.
So...
.
Today I searched for an old friend
and found him... in my memories...
still young and funny and frozen in time amid an abundance of hope
and the world spread out before him like a picnic blanket.
.
He was seventeen when last I saw him
getting drunk with me on cheap Ripple wine behind the red barn
showing me his latest sketches and pictures of his latest paintings
and telling me that his girlfriend of four years had broken up with him.
.
Three weeks later it was in the newspaper
a tiny four line story on the second page and that was all
about that lonely little dark and desolate house down the street
where he had hung himself and all his hopes.

By a 'new' member of PH, Brayden R. Kennedy. His PH bio
I found humorous. This poem is not. It's about what many of
'us' have to 'look forward to' (also not funny) . Ha ha.

The Old Woman

The old woman sat alone in her ancient chair,
Gently rocking with the breeze.
Her mind elsewhere in a distant time.
A time when the demons of age were unbeknownst to her.
A time when the pleasant presence of youth was a
Mainstay of life.
The memory danced around her mind vividly.
The joy of being alive rang through the walls of her mind.
The memory became more and more clear,
As the emotions grew more profoundly.
A smile came to the aged face.
Wait, that can't be right…
The memory stood still.
The woman stayed in a confused state.
The wicked sands of time broke through the peace and solitude.
A wave of pained and unintentional realization
Shook the woman to her core.
Yet, as soon as the wave rolled past,
A blissful ignorance replaced any recollection of the memory.
The old woman returned to her steady rockin,
Unaware of the shame that had just occurred.
Time claimed yet another trophy.

I will send Bri the ice cream by boat from San Francisco, California, by way of Cape Horn. I hope it is still frozen when it gets to him. He lives in South Carolina at present.

The one by Susan Williams is the best of the lot. She has ridden her horse to the top of the hill, and proven she has talent still.
