Shahzia Batool

Mun aangan ka mosum! (urdu)

Lo hijr k lamhay sir per hen
Kbhi chup hon gay, kbhi roein gay
Aur jaag jaag ker raaton mein
Ashkon k haar piroen gay
Bus sochh mein ghaltaan rehtay hen
Aankhon mein shab guzarti he
Hum khud se puchhtay rehtay hen
Kyun raat ki raani ki khushboo
Mun aangan ko mehkaati he
Kyun iss aangan mein yeh kaliyan
Khilti hen roop dikhaati hen
Kaliyon per shabnam saj saj ker
Soey huay phool khilaati he
Kyun phool mehektay jaatay hen
Kyun titli urrti jaati he
Kyun koyal kookti phirti he
Aur punchhi naghmay gaatay hen
Iss baagh mein kitni ronaq he
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Lekin yeh andar ka mosum
Kyun itna badla badla he
Or dil ki veera’n nagri bhi
Kyun muztar muztar rehti he
Yeh tanha tanha khamoshi
Hum se kiya kehna chahti he
Kyun yaad kisi ki aati he
Or iss be naam si yaad me yeh
Aankhen kyun num ho jaati hen
In na maalum si yaadon ki
Aakhir koi pehchhan to ho…
Phir ek sawal ubharta he
Kyun andar baahar ki rut mein
Tafreeq rawa ho jaati he
Or dil mera yeh puchhta he
Wo kon naseebay walay hen
Jin k mun aangan ka mosum
Baahar ki rut k jessa he?

Young Love lies sleeping
In May-time of the year,
Among the lilies,
Lapped in the tender light:
White lambs come grazing,
White doves come building there:
