Ljubljana - One That's Lovely Poem by Tirupathi Chandrupatla

Ljubljana - One That's Lovely

In our drive from Dubrovnik to Bled
Journey to Slovenia passes thru' Ljubljana
Major roads and railways meet here
Transport to Europe must go thru' the city.

Miles long line of trucks in right lane
We noticed all along as we rode our bus
The system is followed as a strict measure
Without this regulation traffic'll be a mess.

We stayed overnight in pretty town Bled
Next to blue lake by a tall mountain
A museum of local artifacts at its top
The walking trail invites everyone to tread.

Next day we went to the capital Ljubljana
Origin of the name has stories many
Maybe from river Ljubljanica that flows thru'
Or Slavic name ‘ljubovid', the one that's lovely.

City's symbol is the fierce Dragon depicted
On the flag, tower, bridge, and coat of arms
Jayson slaying the dragon's seen elsewhere
Fertility of earth's believed to be attained.

Bridges and river at Preseren Square're pretty
The great poet and his muse stand in bronze
Blessing the people learning their legend
As some float elegantly on paddle boards.

National Assembly, town hall, central market
Museums and architectural monuments
Are easy to view in a pleasant walking tour
One day visit's not enough to see all.
