Sweet'Re The Dreams Poem by Tirupathi Chandrupatla

Sweet'Re The Dreams

Rating: 5.0

As a boy
I always dreamed
How wonderful
It would be
To work
In a chocolate
Factory
Immersed in
Sweet aroma
Tasting morsels
What a life
It would be.

Here I am
Ripe of age
I have seen
Factories
Machines and labor
Making products
Chocolate making's
No different
Not so easy
Roasting beans
Making liquor
Mixing and refining
Conching and tempering
Molding into blocks
Tedious indeed
Smell and environment
If uncontrolled
Hazards for health
Both inside
And outside.

Sweet're the dreams
Sour's the reality
We must realize
Nothing's easy.

I read an article on Children's Day, it was focusing on the child labor issue esp. those children who work in the fields...the scene was quite horrible, it goes like this: It may be unthinkable that the chocolate we enjoy could come from the hands of children working as slaves. In the Ivory Coast alone, there are an estimated 200,000 children working the fields, many against their will, to create the chocolate delicacies enjoyed around the world.

A lovely poem I can see myself there in the factory eating the chocs! However, there are hazards afoot, a health risk eating them and working there.

Wonderful! May chocolates remain chocolate dreams and let us keep gnawing reality away. You won't believe while in Class III, my friend and I used to dream being small birds and getting into a shop through a hole on the door to eat what you know - jaggery! Those were beautiful days, sweet, all by-gone and long-lost. (10)

I love chocolates but they don't love me. You know what I mean (smile) . Sweet to the lips bad for the hips. Some of the finer things in life really do takes some hard work with very little pay. A good write this is.
