Let's Face It Poem by RAJ NANDY

Let's Face It

LET'S FACE IT!

There are faces that attract us,
There are faces which repel!
While some faces keep haunting us,
And some get entangled with our fate!
But there are many others which we
come across,
Only to forget!
Fair face of Helen had launched a
thousand ships,
And burnt the topless towers of Ilium,
With Troy's sacking and defeat!
But the dual faces of Dr Jekyall
and Mr Hyde, are the ones,
Which are always difficult to discern!
But the face we all love the best,
Is the one we ourself possess!
Like Narcissus we fall in love with our
reflected visage!
Yet the face with which we are born,
And the one with which we die, -
Are generally not the same!
And should you ask me why? -
Well, only ageing doesn't have all the
say!
Our inner thoughts, actions and deeds,
Chisels and shapes the face we gradually
put on!
But for some it becomes an added mask, -
Deciphering which becomes an onerous
task!
So let us with right thoughts and deeds,
Earn His blessings and bountiful grace;
So that in this God given life,
We never suffer any loss of face!

Sir, Your observations on life, humanity, history are extraordinary. This is a great poem. Yes Sir! Every word in this poem has great inner meaning and thought provoking content. I tried some thing like this in two poems, vz. Smile effect and Jekyll and Hyde. But not upto this perfection indeed.

what we make of what life throws at us is what shapes us eventually. i think one life time is not enough to even understand ourselves. who am i is a good place to begin with. Raj a very thought provoking poem.

Beauty strikes the eyes but merit wins the soul….. Curled or uncurled the locks will turn grey…[ POPE ] Narcissist, Helen, Dr Jekyll & Hyde ….well put allusions.. I find the present generation getting more and more towards narcissism….rather than the merit.. A unique theme…..well expressed. the poem has a good face and merit too….
