Affection Poem by Khairul Ahsan

Affection

Rating: 4.7

A sweet little birdie has joined our nest
Anayah is her name, who takes little rest.
She keeps frolicking around all the time,
And accepts no time to be her bedtime.
When we ask her to go to bed,
With a nay she would oscillate her head,
Saying that she has homework to complete,
Urging us instead, to rest and sleep.

Off and on she would approach us and say
‘Go to sleep', so that unhindered she can play.
Whenever the calling bell rings at the door,
She rushes to open, leaving her dolls on the floor.
If reminded of the danger of the Corona virus,
She desists from opening, though very desirous.
When I say my prayers, she quietly joins beside
And repeats the prayers, taking me as her guide.

She is always busy, playing with her dolls and toys,
Sometimes quietly, sometimes with a lot of noise.
Whatever she does, she comes to me, intermittently,
And asks me some questions, on this or that plea.
If she sees me dressed up and ready to go out,
She would move ahead of me, like a trained scout.
Pressing the elevator button she would look at my eye
And earn a warm hug, before I bid her goodbye.

I can imagine your excitement when a little birdie comes to your solitary nest! No wonder she consumes the bulk of your time! Every minute, you must be enjoying her lively presence. She looks a sweet little girl. Grand parents love their grand children much more than their own children! A poem overflowing with affection!
