My purpose dwindles in the heat of this

these feelings cannot be true,
the swiftness of which you encaptured

Allow me, just momentarily, to acknowledge the
fruit of your attention;

i dipped my finger
in the moon
last night
& realized that

as the day drags on,
my mind fills w/ thoughts of you

sing me a song while you are here,
or cry w/ me about the fact that things will never be the same,
when you left i never thought you'd return
but you did.

Hum the melody of a song long forgotten
as i sing the words i don't remember,
Whisper secrets you'd never tell
as they bounce into the security of my mind,

When I was a young man
my mother would take me outside during rainy days
and we would play for hours
until the rain stopped.

I sit among the rocks
with an instrument I've never played
in a land I've never seen
with a people I've never known.

I fell asleep in your eyes the other day
a pool of brown
