A Reservation For Many. Poem by Nicco Muegge

A Reservation For Many.

sing me a song while you are here,
or cry w/ me about the fact that things will never be the same,
when you left i never thought you'd return
but you did.

answer me why you ever left in the first place,
or at least satisfy my impatient worry & concern,
when all you did was leave every time i expected you
but you returned.

whisper something along the lines of heroism,
or tell me about the times when you were in the mire,
when it didn't seem like there would be a way out
but you're here.

tell me why you never thought you'd make it here,
or lie to me & say you always had faith in yourself,
when things were rough & you weren't so sure
but you made it.

listen to bird outside my window sing,
or continue w/ your story as my eyes begin to grow heavy,
when all of a sudden i fall asleep, & wake to find
you're still here.
