To Love You, My Greatest Vice Poem by Nicco Muegge

To Love You, My Greatest Vice

Rating: 5.0

pure love stained with pain of past;
i long to love you, but cannot, still -
why!
My purpose dwindles in the heat of this
endless summer

"let her go! "
the trees call out to me as I walk by them,
"free her from your bondage;
your heart desires her, but your mind rejects her!
how long will you torture her! "
the wind blows with great vehemence,
causing the trees to dance in fury.

"let her go! "
the moon calls out to me from its place amongst the council of stars;
"allow her to love again! ;
your infliction upon her will only cause harm,
how long will you imprison her! "
shining with immense brilliance,
i cower before him.

"let her go! :
my body and mind cry out in tremendous unison;
"you treacherous heart full of selfish convictions!
how long must you keep her! "
my body trembles and my mind aches
as they internally battle my heart.

the heart, deceitful amongst all things, strives
for what it wants.
innocent in intentions, perhaps, but destructive in outcome;

to die on your lips,
sing to me softly before the morning comes.
bleeding ourselves dry,
with the trees, the moon, and ourselves as sole witnesses
