What could ever be better than "nothing"?
And is "emptiness" "nothing"? I'm CONFUSED!
[Simon & Garfunkel sang "Silence", so softly.]
By blinding "gloom", I was far....from amused,
AND I so hate that (by it) you were ever abused.

Well, it seems you made it to the beach.
And you had the whole beach to yourself.
If I'd been there, I'd have taken your hand,
and I would forever be your seeing-eye elf,
and your memories, we'd find on a shelf.

What could ever be better than solitude?
"Fetters of pretense"? What are those?
As for storms, it's good to be prepared ….
with boots, and some snuggly-warm clothes,
AND don't forget tissues …..for your nose!

You woke up in the morning? Is that so bad?
Do NOT think of the "past" if it was unpleasant!
[I know it's a very TALL order for some to fill,
whether regrets are those of a Queen or a Peasant,
WHEN "dreams" flee like a poor flushed pheasant.]

But "reality" is sometimes what one makes of it;
don't ask singer Don McLean to help you there.
And PERHAPS it is true, and it IS your road's end,
but NO NEED for the "last page" to bring despair …..
if there are NO MORE tears & NO more...pulling your HAIR!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
my poem is an 'echo poem' [an invention of PH poet Brian Johnston) . it is meant to 'echo' the poem 'I Woke Up.....', by PH poet Lora Colon (on her site on PH) , AND i plan to submit it to Brian Johnston's monthly (Feb.) ACPC page.

[ACPC, i believe, stands for 'a challenge poem contest'. there, PH poets may submit a poem suggested by BJ, members can read the poems, comment, and, during a specific period, they can vote for the 'winner'.]

i, bri edwards, have just started a monthly 'A Showcase For PH Poets' on my PH site. on my page members are invited to submit up to two poems a month. they can be of any topic, and need not be new to PH. two poems may be submitted each month, if one is about 12 lines or less.

my page is NOT a contest. it is meant to give a place for poets to show off poem(s) , old or new, which they particularly would like people to read.

A fantastic poem! A masterpiece! I wonder if you are aware of the magic your words have conjured. Did you see the genius in the making? My favorite stanza: You woke up in the morning? Is that so bad? Do NOT think of the past if it was unpleasant! [I know it's a very TALL order for some to fill, whether regrets are those of a Queen or a Peasant, WHEN dreams flee like a poor flushed pheasant.]

interestingly, when i first composed my poem (which was extensively edited before being submitted) , i noticed that instead of seeing-eye, i had written see-eying [and the computer didn't mind at all! ]. i'm glad i caught it before someone else saw it! ! ! oops! bri :) by the way, a seeing-eye elf is like a seeing-eye dog for the blind.
