We were as perfect as perfect could be,
A near flawless song of harmony
On the outside a joy to behold,
However the whole story wasn't quite told
We kissed and talked as our young love bloomed,
But upon the horizon a hint of shadow loomed
I wish once more for those blissful days
Running about in a joyous daze,
I bragged about you to all who'd hear,
Promising I'd always be near
We had plans to run from the world
Classic love of a boy and a girl
A tale of the ages, as old as time,
My love for you was my biggest crime
Life kept pushing us around but we were so strong
We knew in each others arms is where we belonged
The miles between us were far too great,
And our love met an unjust fate
I've loved you from the very start
Which is why I broke your heart
I'll give you the best I can provide,
Even though it tears me up inside
Sadly I couldn't be there for you
But that doesn't mean I never loved you
I hope someday you'll understand,
Breaking your heart was not something I'd planned
I sent you away after making you fall for me
For good reason, though it's hard to see
I love you too much to let you be with me
I'm not what's best for you, though you'd disagree
Though it killed me to push you away,
You never saw the pain in my face
When I can't be there for you
You deserve to someone who has a heart so true,
As hard as it is to understand
I pushed you to the arms of a better man
Making you love me was my biggest sin
Then breaking your heart from within
I regret making you love me
Knowing we were temporary
You're now in the arms of a far better man
And I hope you'll never know heartache again
My bad did good, as you hopefully can see,
Everybody wins, everyone but me...
