Our Individual Cheese Poem by Daniel Pace

Our Individual Cheese

Rating: 5.0

How can you shoot for the stars if the sky is the limit?
Why should I accept my flaws if I'm in it to win it?
They tell me I'm too old to laugh and play, and too young to understand
Some call me a kid and others say I'm a fine young man
Life is so mixed up and construed in so many ways
As if we're mice after cheese in our own little maze
But the cheese isn't a cheese at all
It's something else entirely it would seem,
An all-encompassing cheese of thoughts, hopes, and dreams
Life, you see is such a vague term
So many opportunities for each of us to learn
A goal to earn
A haunted memory to burn
As if butter, minds will churn
As you lay in bed and toss and turn
Thinking about who, or what, or why
Or thoughts of ways that one could die
You have to keep going, try and try
Life kicks you down and sometimes you cry
But you can't stay down long, so get back on your feet
With some help from the people along the road you meet
Some challenges when conqured leave no trace
But there will always be others to take their place

Unlike Judith, I love cheese! It's hard to believe you are only 19. This is a very mature piece, well constructed and developed with intelligence. I shall read your other poems now. Judith recommended you and I shall thank her.
