The Internal Inferno Poem by Edwina Reizer

The Internal Inferno

The summer time heat
has gotten to me.
It has changed my steady beat
and allowed me to see
beyond the confines of this world
that closes me in.
It's a freeing feeling
that doesn't permit sin
to send me spinning and reeling.

I burn as intensely
as the summer's sun.
I yearn as immensely
to become one
with all of creation
that's vast in space.
The heat slows me down.
But I'm not in a race.
I won't shed tears that make me drown.

The temperature outside
is no higher than mine.
I know it will subside.
I'll leave it behind.
For the raging flame that I own
will simmer down soon.
I will hold dearly all I've known.
And every word and every tune
will temper the summer's heat.
