She Came Back Today Poem by Danny Draper

She Came Back Today

Rating: 5.0

She came back today
But wouldn't stay,
Made no demands
And nothing to say.

Occupied the old chair
Gestured to no one there,
Husk of a withered seed
Tumbled by careless air.

Noticed displayed pictures
Seldom viewed or discussed,
Never surfaced in conversation
As less the absent must.

Hot cuppa's sipped
Catch up news exchanged,
Essence melded every breath
By each a presence stays.

She wandered in and out
Of thoughts as lighted fleck,
Guided hands by nurturing
Passing on a caring bent.

She had but one generation
To craft and to extol,
Those lives an occasional whisper
May guide upon recall.

Likely she is always here
But lately recollected, and
Silently within us goes our
Forebear's hopes projected.

She came back today, but wouldn't stay
Made no demands or plans amended,
And nothing to say as if never there
Not happy or sad, just remembered.

Sympathetic, even curious. Not judgemental

I agree with Kevin, this poem needs to be read carefully to fully gleam the meaning. A memory of a loved one imparts a nostalgic recollection of things past but never forgotten.

This needs to be read multiple times in order to digest every word, but it is pretty haunting, and deeply personal, for me I think of everyone I have lost to death, who are gone but whose memories live on and seem to always return. I wont look at seeds again without thinking of someone lost.
