Salamander Missing! ! ... [ Where, Oh Where, Has ' Our ' Salamander Gone? ] Poem by Bri Edwards

Salamander Missing! ! ... [ Where, Oh Where, Has ' Our ' Salamander Gone? ]

Rating: 5.0

I took a salamander from Nature, against the critter's will.
I set it in a shallow dish of water, not far from a window sill,
....inside our kitchen, on a counter, near the kitchen sink.
While I went elsewhere, for a 'few' minutes, away it did slink.

I planned to show my wife once she got herself 'off' the phone.
But, returning, I found that the water was still there, but alone,
no amphibian in sight which made me angry....with myself.
I searched the counter and floor, but I did not search any shelf.

I SHOULD have placed it in a much deeper dish, a safer place.
That I'd allowed it to 'escape', to me was a worrisome disgrace!
Now, two days later, there are 'oases' placed upon our wood floor,
containing water, dried AND damp leaves, cereal, fruit, and more.

I've nearly given up hope of ever finding it...., at least not alive.
It'd be nearly a 'miracle' if, in our for-humans house, it does survive.

Sorry, Unnikrishnan, there is NO prize (except the joy of reading my poem) for being the first to comment. ; ( I think you 'want' 'subtlety', a noun, not 'subtle' (pronounced 'suttle') .

Why not have your wife name it Jimmy? Maybe it will show up then. Oh, wait --- Sal would be a better name.

Despite your negligence in not putting the salamander in a better place, still there is an effort on your part to show care for the animal. A nice lesson imparted to us readers.

Thanks, ....but.... it was not meant to be a pet. It bothered me some that I was not able to return it to 'THE WILD'. I only wanted to share Nature with my wife for a few seconds. bri : )

Were the oases created by your wife for the salamander? Did it return to Oases?

I was, basically, the sole creator; the 'oases' have been dismantled. : )

Your poet's note is missing the right-hand parenthesis.
