Respite Poem by Dillon McKenna

Respite

There she does lie, in a repose so serene.
Under pallid moonlight, in throes of wild ecstasy,
Wrapped in the silver beams, chasing what wild fantasies?
What great palace on mountain high places this Venus as their rightful queen?
Such a gentle peace does hide her flitting dreams.

Such a gentle peace, how it moves my heart,
I wish I could make her see, I wish I could have a new start,
Underneath this veil of white lies the love I have for so long sought,
Lies of love I should never have breathed and lessons I should never have taught,
Under Dianas waxen light, still brighter than any star.

Under Dianas waxen light, here is our new home,
Under day and under night, where I promised you'd never be alone,
A promise I knew I'd always keep, before my heart turned to stone,
Before the good faded from my life and never again made its presence known,
Before you laid down to sleep, and I set out to roam.
