My Wife Became A Mermaid & Promptly Swam Away Poem by Bri Edwards

My Wife Became A Mermaid & Promptly Swam Away

Rating: 4.5

She was born on the east coast of Japan, bordered by an Ocean.
She'd eaten plenty of Seafood, some raw, ......which she called Sushi.
And she was an accomplished Swimmer & often Swam in a pool, BUT
......it never dawned on me how CLOSE she might have felt/been to the 'Sea'.

Her feet, for a petite female, were Large, and she often rose on her Toes.
She had skin ailments, not quite 'Scaly', and Itching, often on her legs.
She at times had short hair; other times her hair was Long and it did Flow.
Was being a mermaid in her future her fate? The question begs.

Whether it had always been her Fate or not, I'll never know.
But I KNOW, while on vacation, into the Sea she did go.
She dove off a long pier. I didn't know what to do! ! !
I began to undress, starting with my L and R shoe.

I scanned the water's surface, but I saw Her not.
I did call 911. My heart Raced. I Worried too.
From my mind, 'I'm losing her', I did blot.
Then I heard her voice call: 'Dear, adieu'.
I heard far-off sirens. My tears began to flow.
I heard her call again, from whence the wind did blow.
Then I saw her swimming form, a naked female above her waist.
'Below' she looked like a fish, her skin scale-covered, her feet, by tail, replaced.
I never saw her after that. Officials in boats searched the waters with NO luck.

Tears sometimes return to my eyes, but then I try to console myself: 'It WAS her fate'....
I tell myself! Each year I return to that 'long pier' half-wishing I will see her or hear her call.
But, in this year's October, I'll be 'The Golden Bachelor' [on TV] searching for a 'newfound love'.
Seven years after my 'first love' disappeared [never found], a judge ruled her 'legally-dead'.
That cleared my way to try to find & marry a woman, one who's also lost her spouse.

Wish me 'Good Luck! ', please.

:)

p.s. Only some of this story, near its beginning, is TRUE.

p.p.s. The Golden Bachelor is a TV program/show I've been watching.
The 'Golden Bachelor', the man, not an actor as far as I know, is very close to MY age,75.

This is a very imaginative tale with a sad ending. It was like reading fairy tale story. Your wife's presence in the story made it interesting and sentimental too.

Thanks for your reading and comment, Rose Marie. I was inspired before by my wife, but its title was similar to Don't Ever Call Your Wife Hitler. ; (

Before she let me marry her, she made my promise to let her die before me. NOW I may never know WHEN i'm allowed to die, since she still (I suppose) is swimming 'the ocean blue'. : ( bri
