Lend Some Fries Poem by Genevieve Pilat

Lend Some Fries

A city day always in a bustle
Every person living in a nonstop hustle
They're in their own world, eyes straight ahead
Nothing will cause them to ever stop dead.

A homeless man sitting on the ground
His existence unseen in the city's background
The world walks on ignoring, their minds full of blindness
He simply asks for just a bit of kindness.

I noticed this person whilst visiting the city
And the lack of compassion I saw made me feel pity
But then to my astonishment I couldn't believe my eyes
Someone had acknowledged him and gave him some fries.

A very small gesture, to some no big deal
Whether fresh from the fryer or leftover from a meal
But by the look of that man when a smile grew on his face
Something tells me that stranger knew that wasn't the case.

The man thanked the stranger to which he replied with a nod
And then he went on with his business as if nothing was odd
He didn't wait to be stopped and be praised by anyone
He simply did what he knew had to be done.

The nameless stranger did something that many did not
He provided some kindness with absolutely no afterthought
Now not every act needs to be showboating or publicize
But why can't we all just lend some fries?
