Baby Coming....... [good grief....am i THAT old? ; EXTREMELY SHORT]

My daughter, Shannon, and her hubby, Andy, may have a child next year.

That they can raise their child without me.... I DO have no fear.

My daughter hopes her first child will learn....what this grandpa is ABOUT,

but that this can happen in my absence....I have VERY little doubt.

Poet's Notes about The Poem

i moved to california a few years back, leaving most relatives thousands of miles away from me. so i don't plan to visit too often and probably not for too long. and, who knows? ; i may even die before the kid grows up. i have written a lot about myself: my past, my feelings and beliefs, and also poems which should give some clues as to 'who' i am/was. that should suffice, along with
a photo or two. and there ARE PHONES AND EMAIL AND 'SNAIL MAIL', after all! ! !

This kid may end being just like you, you never know your luck. Hopefully you live more that long enough to see it grow up. (Report) Reply

It is safe that you live far away from your grand child! As your daughter secretly wishes, let the child have no close contact to emulate the 'wicked ways' of its grand pa! Any way as you are not too old....(at least in looks,) what you fear is not to happen any time in the near future! (Report) Reply

Life does go on with or without us, glad to see that yours is expanding; I too am about to become a great for the tenth time. (Report) Reply

I used the leaves and tree metaphors to describe divine system not for how you feel about life. (Report) Reply

    I enjoy reading this poem!
About family members and it's unique with true grandpa love ~
The sadness inside is tiny and decorative.

    Thanks for sharing. (Report) Reply

The poem and the notes both helped to understand that these lines express real feelings of happiness mixed with sadness as it goes together in life that some leaves fall off the tree and some new grow on tip of the shoots. (Report) Reply

Poem of the Day

poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
