Bartholomew Arkoh Boamah Sarbah Poems

From the tribes come the cries of grief
From the phlegm a stream of tears flows
In the dept of our hearts
In the vacuum created suddenly
...

I dream of you day and night
And wish to return to you;
When I see you with open hands
Day and night have I occupied myself with your thought;
...

I searched my heart
I tried to pretend
You were the one I always found
I tried to ignore your presence
...

From the mountain top
onward we go;
Marching gallantly in shrouded countenance
Our Brides awaits us in purple apparel;
...

Awake mother Africa, awake
For you lie asleep for long
Your future is in the balance
And your dignity fades away with the passing of the days
...

Down below the ground come the voices of the great heroes
The pillars of Africa in those days........
From the west come the cries of grief
From the horizon flows the blood of Africa
...

We have suffered long in silence
We the innocents of the land
Guns and bullets holds our rights
And death is hastened by hunger
...

Life.... Life.... Life....
Oh life, life is truely a mystery
Life, life, life
Why is it beyond understanding?
...

She walks
Gorgeously with the elegance of an adorned Princess
And her shadow, cast to her behind,
Is the shrouded image of a professional model
...

Oh beautiful woman
The epitome of love
It is you I greet dear mother
The one whose nipple I suckled at infancy
...

In the midst of the turbulent wind;
the frozen breeze blew solemnly by
I looked around,
espying the images that flooded my noble sight
...

From the darkness you came
while the sleep dead in their chambers
You were like an apparition
reincarnated from the dead
...

Each time I look at your face
In your eyes I could see passion
exuded by your searching eyes
with love that burns like a flame
...

They wait in steadiness
ready to ballot for beast against humans
Criticism is revered above praise
in the rallies to canvass for votes
...

In bright darkness
I can feel your receding body
endowed with adorable contour
from your purple shadow
...

For your love
I have swallowed my fears
and I seek your pardon
that it should be this ungodly hour
...

Brightening the corner where I walk,
your shadow goes before me
while you watch my vulnerable back
to warn me of impending peril
...

The day is bright
and the contrast, very striking
The fool shall remain a fool on any day;
But the birth of a great woman
...

A thousand wishes rushed her path o'er her soul
With gorgeous promises from the dark future;
From the north and from the south,
From the east and from the west
...

One People, One Nation, One Destiny

Nearer, our right gradually approaches us
And louder our mother's call becomes
...

State Death

From the tribes come the cries of grief
From the phlegm a stream of tears flows
In the dept of our hearts
In the vacuum created suddenly
untamed sorrow settles unopposed
and our hands are heavy and tied

A mighty oak has fallen
The leg that sought to carry the heavy load of the body
has ceased to remain active
The head of the people is no more
Forever gone with the eyes and chambers of knowledge

But whenever the gong summons
There is no turning back
and our departure is inevitable
But the lose of a great captain
leaves the boat at the mercy of the sea

It is with aching hearts that we sing
the melody of our departed hero
as the cold wind rustles solemnly by
and our sorrow surges as to beggar all description
with the grateful memories that seeks to remain forever

Receive our fervent condolence
Your Excellency
He who sat on the throne as president
yet death considered not your service
Damirifa Due;
Due ne amanehunu.
