Subhojit Kar Poems

Amidst all the chatter, the honeygold voice is missing
As the predators roam about looking for prey
You the best among them, gone,
Perhaps searching for high ground
...

Doggerel days are here again
for the loony rhyme-and-rhythm men
and there's as much sunshine these days
as there's rain;
...

Killing by prohibition- -
First you prohibit him to talk
Then you prohibit him to read
Force him to sit still like a statue,
...

Blue Spark you ended me.
I sat on the electric chair
to worship you
and you pressed the switch
...

Singularity is a coin
with loneliness on its flop side;
turn the coin around
and you get solitude
...

The night train
scythes through
the endless layers of mystery
of the insatiable night.
...

Aparajita, Arati, Anamika, Arpita- -
names such as these
crowd in my tired, technical brain
and open up whole new vistas
...

Just for you
Unmatched dew-fresh Jasmine
Heavenly beauty with
Inspiring presence so divine.
...

I can forget the ice-cold indifference
of my boyhood football hero,
the dribble-king of the seventies-
my growing up days-
...

Why does she sit so close
and chat with him so? - -
Carefree, bubbly and effervescent
as if she's pouring her heart out
...

Thanks a lot
for the pain
you inflicted on me
for it gave me
...

Maximum result with minimum effort- -
using the attacker's brutishness
to bring him down;
Crossing and uncrossing of legs
...

Fandom is temporary, hero worship is permanent
Or is it the other way round?

The glittering sunbeams,
...

Glorious swan neck
Dance rhythm in gait
Voice dripping honey and chocolate
Eyes a heaven lake.
...

I won't woo you with poetry.
Poetry has badly let me down
on occasions more than one.
...

When you smiled,
You took away my breath,
When you cried,
For me, it was death.
...

Dreams hang like a mist
over the rocky edge of silence;

Thoughts flow like a stream
...

Life is a glass of champagne
Sip it and sip it slow,
For in one gulp
If your solitary glass you drain
...

The Almighty, in his present-day avatar,
unable to decide on modern human fate,
took a coin and tossed it high
outside Heaven's Gate.
...

The detective, bespectacled, tall and gaunt,
examines the murder-scene, looks for clues;
he reconstructs the crime in his mind,
burning endless cigarettes and thinks....

Subhojit Kar Biography

I am an electronics engineer from IIT Kanpur. I had worked for several years in a government owned company before leaving it and started teaching high school students Physics & Maths, my favorite subjects besides Literature.Particularly, I've been coaching aspirants for engineering entrance exams with a high success rate for the last 15 years. Creative Writing is the other passion for me and a few of my poems appeared in the Sunday Telegraph (selected by Jayanta Mahapatra) , Poetry Today Magazine (edited by Pradip Choudhuri) and some other smaller publications. I have also tried my hand at writing two novels, but I am yet to find a suitable publisher for them, mainly due to lack of sustained efforts, constrained as I am by the demands of my profession)

Jungle Queen

Amidst all the chatter, the honeygold voice is missing
As the predators roam about looking for prey
You the best among them, gone,
Perhaps searching for high ground
Stropping your passion claws, flexing your love muscles

Yet, it helps to think that you're not solely predatory

For you stand apart, the music in the din
The unvanquished Jungle Queen with the unmistakable urban sheen
No lurking, no skulking for you
But the proud frontal attack
Turning men to jelly, your squirming victims

Now that your unmistakable melody is missing
The forest orchestra is playing out of tune
The green mystery of the wilderness all but lost
For the lonesome curious trekker
He picks up his binoculars, scans the whole horizon
But as far as his eyes can see
It's only a barren, sandy wasteland

Come back, O Jungle Queen, come back with your magic
With your rousing majestic strides make the forest green
Newborn grasses will sprout wherever you tread
Trees bending their crowns in regal salute
Flowers will bloom, birds will sing
And all the playful cubs will gambol by the spring
So come back and play your music, O Jungle Queen
