Richie Duprey Poems

I step on the prickly grass.
The midday sun emits rays of joy onto my pale, white skin.
There is silence in the hillside as hours and hours pass.
I'm sitting now, looking at the clouds with a butterfly on my chin.
...

You're a pitchfork in the ribs of happiness,
An hourglass without the concept of time.
I wait and wait for your deathly kiss,
I know you'll cut me down in my prime.
...

The wind rushing through his hair,
The darkness pricking at his every nerve,
The shadows at the corner of his eye,
It's waiting for him to die.
...

"Follow me, dear child, "
Snapped the words like a 'gater from the Nile.
He follows with innocence in his heart.
Little did he know, the world he knew would soon depart.
...

The beauty that emitted from you will never be lost,
Although, I want you back beside me no matter what the cost.
No matter how much I cry, no matter how much I am sad,
I know that I had an amazing friend and for that I am so glad.
...

You stole from me my innocence, my childhood and my name.
I hope one day you will see this and you will understand my pain.
Thank you kind sir, you've made me what I am today;
A bundle of broken nerves, a mouth full of words I'm still too afraid to say.
...

Setting down my watch, I sit and stare.
I'm in the present now, no need to go anywhere.
Letting the thoughts go, I no longer care.
There's positivity in my air.
...

As sure as the sun doth set and the moon doth rise,
you can step right up and win a prize.
Sit in silence among the trees,
no need for praying on your knees.
...

A boy's first inspiration - his father,
Traditionally a strong, masculine figure,
Smashed to smithereens.
...

What if I told you it wasn't a game?
It wasn't my aim, I'm not to blame.
What if I told you I'm feeling fine?
I'm not going to hold up a sign, this problem is mine.
...

Can he see the beauty emitting from the world,
Or has his mind been destroyed before it was even developed?
He spends his time sobbing and feeling sorry for himself,
but his "self" isn't behind those teary, blue eyes.
...

Breathe in,
Shaking with fear,
Hyperventilating,
You almost pass out.
...

When I stand in the mirror it's not me that I see,
It's some ****ed up young kid with a mental disease.
Is there any way that I can get a release?
If I ended it all, would you be pleased?
...

I pick up the feather-tip pen and dip it carefully into the pot of jet black ink.
With my mind racing and my heart pounding, I discharge my subconscious onto the page.
Spewing words, I cry.
Will I drown in this ink or within the shallow bath I have drawn?
...

Closing in around me are the pressures of the world,
Are they really there or am I just mad?
Is this reality? Is this a dream?
I'm worthless, nothing, just a sad "human being".

You're not my noose, for I tied this knot,
You're a paper doll and I'll fold you how I want.
I'm waging war against my own head,
And I'm breaking the rules, with no glue to put them back together.
...

Two wolves, light and dark.
On audacious adventures, they did embark.
A brotherly bond, they did share;
Enamoured with one another's flair.
...

Isn't it bizarre that we, as humans, think we have so much time to say everything we want to say but yet, when we get a grasp of how time actually works, we forget that it can all change in the blink of an eye and words ultimately will be left unsaid?

A summer breeze, Mediterranean heat. Dust flying up from the tyres of a rusted Fiat.
Quiet roads but loud hangovers. Spending ‘time' with a soul akin to mine.
...

Dearest Palestine,

I know it's been a while since I sent my last letter,
But know that I never stop thinking of you, I hope you are better.

The Wolf

I step on the prickly grass.
The midday sun emits rays of joy onto my pale, white skin.
There is silence in the hillside as hours and hours pass.
I'm sitting now, looking at the clouds with a butterfly on my chin.

The lake below in the valley is glistening in the sun.
The birds fly high, making patterns up above.
I hear a solitude wolf howling, calling for someone.
I see the wolf now and all I feel is love.

Come sit beside me, noble wolf.
Are you here to make me feel free?
The emotions begin to engulf.
Please, sit beside me.

I look into it's brown eyes and all I can see are
Ways to leap over hurdles and regain my strength.
I must do this for myself for only then can I be free.
