Why? Poem by Alexander Thomas

Why?

What is in the light that inspires delight?
What is it in the sky that calls us to fly?
What is it in the sea that beckons us to be free?
What is it about this land that draws the hand?

How are we spun around the majestic Sun?
How does the immense tide open so wide?
How does the dreamy night awaken so bright?
How does the heart bump and start?

Why does this Earth bring us such mirth?
Why does the Moon throw me into a swoon?
Why does the twinkling star call from afar?
Why does the blinking eye arouse us to cry?

Who would fail to wonder at a clap of thunder?
Who would not be in awe of all that they saw?
Who would stall from true love's call?
Who would deny we have been living a lie?
