Welcome To The Food Line Poem by louis rams

Welcome To The Food Line

Welcome to the food line

Living in a homeless shelter because the rents are too high
All anyone wants is just a piece of the pie.
You work all your life and wait for the day, that you could
Retire and live a simple way

The cost of living has gotten out of control
" one person can't make it alone ".
The people are banding together just to stay alive
This is the only way one can survive.
People are losing their jobs every day
How will they make it without that pay?

There is no such thing left as the middle class
That is now just the past.
When you are not rich, then you are poor
And the credit card companies now open their door.
Then you are going further into debt, and there is
No relief yet.

The homeless food line is growing fast
How long will this last?
