Unrequited Love Poem by Neil Stephens

Unrequited Love

I remember the day God came from the sky
And put your loving sunshine in my eye
You were placed in the depths of my soul
Unknowing how enmeshed and at what a toll

I watched you grow but could never be
The love of your eye I needed to see
Berated and degraded my love holds fast
My love for you will always last

My love, discounted by most
Is the love that saints on high would toast
I capture your soul in the cup of my hand
Never to let you drop in the sand

Away to the winds we went separate ways
For many years I could never gaze
In those warm loving eyes that hold my life
Knowing that you are someone else's wife

If only you knew how much I care
You'd have me arrested, to be out of your hair
If I only get to have known you in the past
I'll treasure your thought, as just friends we were cast

If I dare to dream and step beyond
As I love every atom that you have a bond
Don't hate me or leave me forlorn
For my soul already feels shorn

May you live and love whom you desire
And as you grow and move on higher
I'll remember you dearly my lovely friend
From one who loves your whole being, I commend
