Sparrows Poem by Neil Stephens

Sparrows

I see a sparrow on my window sill
I'm just a reach away from touching its quill
Though I would wan to touch
I know I'm not fast enough
To spend the energy wouldst only scare
And probably just fly in the air
I've been around for many years, too
Yet still have not been friended by you
You beautiful birds are an elusive lot
In your journeys from spot to spot
God has designed your wings with tedious care
Tucked or outstretched they glide through the air
You comb and preen those wings with your beak
To keep them clean and keep them sleek
Such tender little animals you sparrows are
To only appreciate you from afar
I throw seed for you to eat
And in droves you land, feast, and greet
Each other in happy tone
Accepting others from young to crone
I'd love for you to light round me
An old stranger I wouldn't be
What an addition to this worldly place
You sparrows are such a grace
