'The Quickening' Poem by NiQi Deveaux

'The Quickening'

You give that toothy loving smile
As you creep in close to me
And lay your head upon my chest
I cover you like an ancient tree

You sink tween me and the cushions
On the couch before the fire
Desires are sparked within me
But your sighs makes them retire

I'd rather be here with the you
On any given day
It's not sexual when once we touch
Our spirits want to play

So I put my body to one side
It takes the back row seat
You squeeze my hand, immediately
You notice my heartbeat

My spirit leaps to catch all of
The butterflies fluttering inside
My mind runs like a thoroughbred stallion
And I quite enjoy the ride

It's faster now and holds its pace
A deep sigh stirs within my chest
Anticipating a great release
Like a wave builds to its crest

I let it out and close my eyes
And picture your lovely smile
I can hear it crack across your face
And I smile to in kind

Laying in the ambiance
This country setting, quiet and still
I feel the racing of my pulse
And I'm there happy until

You lift your face, look in my eyes
And we speak a million words
But not a peep, not a single sound
Our breaths only... can be heard

You close your eyes but I do not
Love to see your skin so close
As you lay a kiss upon my lips
Breathing deep now with your nose

These sighs we use to calm ourselves
Or expressing our deep content
Can turn to passion, oh, so quick
But I just linger in this moment

I run my hand across your shirt
So precious, the sound I hear
A harder press of your soft lips.... so sweet
My heart whispers... Oh... my dear

I keep record of the feelings
That well right up from my toes
Bubbling softly filling me full up
Until I overflow

I'm quickened and I skip a beat
Move in to a new place and time
I'll draw you in and wrap you up
Forever lost in rhyme...
