'The Grass Beneath My Feet' Poem by NiQi Deveaux

'The Grass Beneath My Feet'

As a child I looked to you for love
And a patient heart, but it took too much
I was all alone and I thought you knew
You were supposed to guide me through

The critical mind that tore me down
Shame and anger followed me around
You're gone so long now and I can see
You're still here... But you have come to be

The whisper in the winds, the leaves on the trees
The sun in the sky and the grass beneath my feet

I know you're here and you can see
The woman your baby has grown up to be
Now I'm strong and I hold my own
My baby once, but so big he's grown

He said he misses you, though you've never met
He's such a joy, you'd love him I bet
Someday we'll meet again, you'll know I did my best
But until then... In my mind you'll rest

But you're the waves on the water, the sands on the beach
The clouds in the sky, and the grass beneath my feet....

The grass beneath my feet....

(THIS IS A SONG I COMPOSED... I'LL BE RECORDING LATER)
It's a tribute to my dad. 💜
