When I was a teenager
I saw what I was sure
was a Gila monster lizard
on the Black Hills
between Annabella
and Glenwood.
The only trouble was,
Gila monsters were not known
to inhabit that area. We thought
they were only found in Arizona
and California and Mexico.
When I told others about it,
most of them said I was crazy.
"There aren't any of those in Utah, "
they would say.
My father was the only one
who said he believed me.
Later I actually questioned it myself.
Had I really seen it? It looked
just like the pictures I had seen
in books, though the colors
did not seem quite as bright.
I was researching something else
on the Internet yesterday
and happened to discover
that not only do they exist in Utah,
but they were made the state reptile
in 2019!
I feel more vindicated now.
See, Dad? I was right all along!
Kim, Great story. The picture really adds to the story. 5 stars! ! !
Your interesting tale had me wondering how it would end, and the ending was quite satisfying.
I love this one Kim, I have not seen any yet in Utah, but have run into a couple in Arizona. Very nice picture too.
They absolutely do exist in Utah, for sure. I too have seen them.
A beautiful poem well conveyed. Informative too. Haven't seen this kind if reptile yet. Wonderful picture. It enhanced the beauty of this marvelous poem.
Sometimes what people believed often influence our way of thinking. I concur with with Captain's Cur comment seeing is indeed believing. Your great father is very right in believing in you.

How refreshing! ! ! I am sure this hit a sore spot in many who witnessed something remarkable but were not believed and later so often too much later to have been right! Excellent write
