The Disappearing Fragrance. Poem by Geoffrey Fafard

The Disappearing Fragrance.

Rating: 5.0

Imagine being without
The perfume of the earth
Like an Eagle
Without an updraft
Moss without green
A worm without dark soil
Fungis without a dead tree
A grave without a headstone
A dead fish without the ants
A crocodile without a smile
And me without a pen
Oh -they cried
Please don't take the
Perfume of the earth
But of course they are
Bit by bit, breath by breath
Gasp by gasp, tear by tear
Oh so sad
Oh so bad
Go out and sniff
Lest tomorrow should come.

Each soul must meet
the morning sun,

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Lovely and so horribly and sadly true, but your poem is doing its bit. We all have to do what we can, and not feel guilty for not doing what we can't. I loved every line - and they all hit home - but the line I loved the most was the crocodile without the smile. :)

Diana -your complimentary comments are so thankfully received. I am thrilled you liked this poem...As far as crocodiles and their smiles are concerned they really are a lovely beast but not up too close and personal. The smile then becomes very captivating indeed.........Cheeres Geoffrey.
