The After Life Of Love Poem by Shruti Goswami

The After Life Of Love

The dark nights surround me
Like a seductive mistress
And her long flowing tresses
Entangle
And bind me to a primitive existence
Of a life without love.

I have long since left
The white innocence of a sun kissed morning
In a bid to escape
Responsibilities visible through that fine muslin
And sought solace
In the dark and smothering kisses of creativity.

The fair youth still pursues me
And the dark mistress beckons
This love has torn me to shreds
And the energy no longer lets me stay.

The black hole sucks me into its unfathomable depths
And I surrender meekly
For I know this after life of love like a brilliant flash of light
Must end in the dark depths of eternity.
