Smoking In The Dark Poem by Kylie Ehlinger

Smoking In The Dark

Rating: 5.0

Bitter sweet is the circle
In which we roam,
Around and around
It never ceases,
It never dies,
This game we call Life.
And here I sit
Alone in the dark,
Smoking my last cigarette.
Thinking of a time
When actions spoke louder
Than the words they sit upon.
We tried so hard to be different,
Different than the cruel
And unforgiving world
That we live in.
What was it that he said?
What a wonderful world…
Could there be
A more forgotten joke?
On and on we go,
Driving ourselves mad.
Mad with temptation,
Lust and greed.
We must have it all
Or we don't succeed!
How much longer
Can the earth withstand
Our destructive habits?
Man is a detriment
Unto himself!
Time goes by and still
We rule like kings and queens,
Turning a blind eye
To the fires that are burning!
But here I sit,
Watching the world flounder
And man's ever spinning wheels,
Smoking my last cigarette.
