The Promises You Made Poem by Kylie Ehlinger

The Promises You Made

Rating: 5.0

No sleep comes this night,
So deprived.
All I feel is the icy coldness
Of genuine rejection.
My heart longs for your touch
But you turn away
While I weep and feel
The pain.
Oh, can't you see
What you are doing to me?
We were meant for more than this,
These hollow and oxygen deprived
Affections.
You speak as if we are friends,
But are we not more?
Are we not lovers?
We share the gift
That we brought into this world,
The ring on my finger
Should tell all, but
The lie is hidden, etched
On the inside.
I beg of you,
Where has our love gone?
Like a poison, it spread
This world's cruelty and hatred.
Bitterness and loneliness
Now abound,
Did we fail?
Or should we go on?
My love,
Where do those long nights
Of passion and laughter hide?
I see dying roses, and
Thorns of remorse,
Bleeding hearts,
Of which I cannot deny.
Not but an empty feeling
You have left, like a tornado
You swept by, with words
That carried the rain.
A brewing storm now hangs
In the place where my heart
Made room for thee.
What have you done to me?
The promises you made to me
Are frought with anger and betrayal,
Null and void.
My hopes torn apart,
A nightmare that I see.
There is nothing left of me,
Nothing left to give,
I am sorry, my love,
For failing thee.
