Settling Scores Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Settling Scores

For the ones who have managed,
To hold their heads up high.
Through the weight of bearing,
Accusations against them made.
With this to do,
Without acts of retaliation.
But relied unshakable to kept faith.
That day will come for them to witness,
How it is God works in mysterious ways.
Leaving them feeling still left baffled,
How it is God did what was done.
And not a word to defend their innocence,
Had been spoken to anyone.
Going about their business.
Appearing to be unaffected.

Although...
Maybe a select few,
Knowing what they did to do...
Unexpectedly might have heard,
One or two cuss words directed to them.
But did not connect it,
To their forgotten accusations made.
Remembered by the ones,
They convinced others...
Were quick to have an 'attitude',
Over nothing.
And that 'nothing',
Just happened to have slipped...
From the lips,
Of the ones reminiscing...
How good it would feel,
To release a little steam.

"God,
Thank you for stopping...
My heated pot,
From boiling 'overeth'.
Very close I came,
To having disgust flow from my mouth.
I was just experiencing,
A momentary visit with impatience.
Can you give me a clue,
As to when You will be...
Settling scores around here?
Maybe hint or two?
Or...
Have me find another way,
From going nuts on some ignorant butts.
Amen."
