Seasons Poem by gabriella mendoza

Seasons

Mother Earth let out a cry
As the soil consumed her heart.
Minerals grind away at her flesh
As each pulse drown the aged roots in blood.

Her blood venomous, Tainting the specimens that thrived upon her skin.
Their bodies fell to the floor.
Fatal injuries reaching millions
Causing the surface to shrivel.

Father Sky let out a cry
As wings burst through joints aligned along his spine.
Time set mutations in his coding
Resulting with wings in pairs of three.

Feathers plastered in blood.
Forced apart in an outstretch,
The stench of blood
Left the taste of copper on his tongue.

Former lovers part from one another.
To lose a pain kept in them forever.

Chartered routes set for the stars
He aimed his head towards the skies
And learned to fly

Her veins forever entangled in the roots.
She watches him take off.
Filled with faith for his return.

His eyes drowned in his thoughts.
Left forever glazed in the glares.

Realization cut her air short.
Destroying the spirit she once embodied.

Time set mutations to their coding.
Turning former lovers into indifferent strangers.
