Prayer I Poem by Bernard Jess Sagpang

Prayer I

If I sing to You
a song in the wind, sung
at the top of my lungs
before the winter breeze, cold
and deep down
in my breath

Would You hear?
Would You listen?
Would You sing
over me?

If I scream for You
at the highest mound, blown
at my deepest ocean
before the summer sun, strong
as if it was my last

Would You hear?
Would You listen?
Would You scream for me?

My ears are bound and my lungs are tied
If I could hear one sound
Then I would be alive

Speak to me
that I may sing again
Sing to me
that I may dance again
And dance over me
that I may be found,
once again.

Jesus, save me from myself!
