Some do call them 'Katydid', others may say: Katy Did Not!
Best known as 'Mormon Cricket', watch your step ** IF......
one you SPOT....,
'spot', as in 'SEE') , because, IF there's one, there may be a lot!
Not 'lot' as in 'dozens', but enough to full a HUGE garden PLOT!
A native insect of some northwestern United States states,
Katydids (shield-backed katydids) may eat salads from your PLATES!
Millions may cross a highway, becoming a slippery damn mess.
I've 'known' katydids, crickets, & Katys, but not this species, I confess.
In times of drought, dormant eggs may, many millions of katydids, yield,
who then, in their quests for food, may eat their way through lawn, garden, ....or field!
Fear not their touch: They won't make you sick, nor sting nor bite YOU.
But IF you are a PLANT, 'keep your distance' or on you they may CHEW!

** 'watch your step': definitions
1. Literally, to pay attention to where one is walking.
2. By extension, to proceed with caution
There are plenty of Arabian fat-tailed scorpion, may be you should visit deserts to explore and write on them as well, this is wonderful piece. Since no poet's note how do I take this dedication and what for? ? Are they bothering like flies?
Yes, Bharati and Kim are bothering me like 'flies'! ! ! But, I LIKE when Bharati; , a gal, bothers me; I'm not SO enthused about Kim, a guy. ;) bri
I LOVE the word 'wondrful' when it is applied to me or my poetry! That's WONDERFUL! ! ! However, I will accept 'Glorious', 'Magnificent', ETC. ;)
Am I the only one to comment on this poem? Already, I see few stars, wonder who give it without comments.
Hi Bri, Thank you for dedicating this poem to me and Kim Barney. But I will take some time to understand the meaning of this poem.I mean how it is related to me.
Interesting and informative poem, I am curious about the rationale behind the commitment/ dedication shown towards Bharati ji and Kim. Perhaps you could enlighten me on this matter..5*****
Enlightenment? I guess I 'should' write a Poet's Note to explain to all of you JEALOUS READERS! ! ? I'll plan to edit the 'poem' to add an explanation.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
Not a regular katydid, but a 'short-winged' katydid. They have caused numerous traffic accidents in Nevada. Millions of squashed crickets become just like an oil slick.
Are they good with peanut butter in sandwiches? Thanks.
