From Childhood Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

From childhood till this day it is the same
I have all the reasons to believe and blame
The opportunities with delayed action came
So many times I had to cut sorry figure with shame

It made me not to cry
With strong resolve pushed me to try
I had no time to evaluate and ask why
I took it as challenge and chosen to fly

I had decided not to beg for anything
Even if I had no one with backing
I went for throwing full weight behind
With only hope to get through and find

I had a hope and nice dream
I always prayed and begged of Him
Oh, God, guide me to shore with dignity
It is only wish to serve mankind with humanity

I had not starved but was not better of either
This small thing did not deter me or bother
I took no short cuts to attain anything for personal goal
I was determined to dig out the diamond from coal

I was sure of good result from the inception
Sometimes I used to face hostile reception
I was not feeling happy with such outcome
Yet any draw back or reversal was welcome

I shall wait for no outside aid
So much was put before me or said
I disregarded the advice and depended own
I believed in principles and accordingly seeds were sown

I knew that the result will come little later
I was not in hurry to settle the matter
I believed in destiny and left it to succeed
As there was no other way than to accede

God also helps to those who believe in efforts
Their ship will always land safely at ports
There won’t be any hindrance on their way
It will be smooth sailing and problems will be miles away


One must believe in self sufficiency
He should never over stretch and live on mercy
It will be unfortunate if things turn other way round
It is altogether bad move and does not seem sound

One goes up in his carrier with external support
He need not cut with loose ends or resort to
It will at long run prove useless and unproductive
It will also make him lazy and inactive

A person who believes on self reliance
Will reach on top of the ladder at once
He will have enough time to look back
And see to himself that what was actually at stake?
