Elderly Love Poem by louis rams

Elderly Love

I wanted to take a plunge into a world I knew nothing of
It was a world called love.
When everything you attempt in your life fails
Love will always prevail.
I saw the love of the elderly - and the way love
Ought to be.
Still holding hands walking down the street
And greeting everyone that they would meet.
I could see the smiles on their faces and the love in their eyes
As if they were hypnotized.
My curiosity got the best of me so I stopped them and asked:
" what keeps your love alive "Their answer was a total surprise.
He then said:I shared her dreams and goals and she shared mine
And we traveled this road throughout our time.
What each one of us want we try to give and pursuing that
Goal is how we live.
Life has more downs than ups, but the joys we share fill our cups.
Always look at your partner like the first time you met
And the commitments that you set.
That is when you become as one - till your life on earth is done.
With that answer I thanked them and walked away
In hopes that I could find a love like that some day.
