Closed Darkness Poem by Soumita Sarkar

Closed Darkness

It was dark
Too dark to see a face
But I knew it was you
It was that same old street corner
Where we often crossed each other
I stumbled
You too stopped
Many a nights
I felt like going near
To offer a hand
To offer a friend
To extend my warmth
To make you feel desired
To embrace you in my arms
But these are loose thoughts of a dark dream
That could never see the light of day
Today
You and me
Again we are alone
Alone in the shelter of dark
Where many fears can melt-
Where many hesitant breaths can die-
Where many questions can become answers-
Where many exclamations can disappear-
Why are we not thinking alike?
Why the first step is not yours?
Would it be immodesty to start?
Would I learn that you had a different mind?
But these are loose thoughts of a dark dream
That could never see the light of day
The dark that we shared
Never made us to dare
Many seasons came and went
Our feelings never got a vent.
Today when I am a matured mind
If happened to pass the same corner
Where we often crossed each other
I fancy
If I had taken the first step-
If I had overcome the fear of blame-
If I had acted more like a child-
We could have been a happy couple.
