Clean Streets Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

Clean Streets

Rating: 5.0

Thanks only to one man
He is sweeper but not treated as human
For centuries he did noble work
From where shall I find for him suitable word?

Was it bad precedence for social structure?
Answer is in yes for which they faced bleak future
Not only distance was developed
But some sort of disliking too was forced

Let me paint one gloomy picture
They carried dirt on head with no secured method
It used to be in open with bad odor
The society claimed cleanliness and sweeper faced dishonor

Even though today that system has been discontinued
The cast system is deep rooted and continued
They are not only kept away but stand socially deprived
For long time we inhumanly treated them and believed too

Now time has changed as there was hue and cry
Now they have tins and lorry to carry
We can find little smile for doing something good
As its importance is now clearly understood

We find roads and streets clean
Some of the roads look so plain
It is cleanliness that attracts our attention
Their role as sweeper is worth to mention
