Scarlet Tanager (Male) [ In County Park In New York State,1980s ]
Seldom seen by me, and 'What A Thrill! '
It's been years since I saw one, but still.....!
Tail and wings all were jet Black,
a striking RED, front and back.
It's a 'look' for which some 'might just kill'.

Wood Frog....[ I Found In My Youth; NYS,1950s ]
Unlike green frogs I caught, this one's brown.
A Frog Prince it'd be with a Gold Crown.
It could blend in with bare ground,
in a wood lot might be found.
If told now 'they're extinct' I'd frown.

Saw-whet Owl....[ At Thousand Acre Swamp, NYS,1980s ]
I've once found this tiny, cute owl,
its face lacking smile or scowl.
With half a mouse at my feet,
bird close by my head, a TREAT! , ....
... was second half of mouse in bowel?

Luna Moth...[ A Very Large Moth On A Tree In My Boyhood Front Yard; NYS,1950s ]
A prettier moth I think I've not seen,
seen but once, before I was a teen,
soft green coat of scales,
and a pair of rounded tails.
About insects I'm quite keen.

Young Black Bear & Young Scout Bri.....[ New Mexico,1960s ]
Camping at Philmont Scout Ranch was I......
when, in pines on hillside, I did spy.....
a young bear. I 'cut it off'.
[ Had my teenage brain gone soft? ! ]
There WERE tense moments but I'd not cry!
In its way, I climbed a narrow stump.
Its front paws, with claws, reached my toes! Jump?
In time, it sensed I'd not play,
and resumed on its Bear-way.
I'll bet more-quickly my heart did pump! !

Baltimore Oriole And Its Nest Building....[ NYS; 1950s ]
Each Spring they'd show up in our huge trees....
to weave hanging nests, no 'Hi', no 'Please'.
Flashing colors Orange and Black,
no needed-skill did they lack.
The hatchlings were rocked by passing breeze.

Ten Inches Long Copperhead Snake....[ At My Present South Carolina Home; December,2022 ]
A pretty snake but still poisonous.....
[ fashion designers o'er it might fuss ]
.....was still, and silent on ground,
the first ever I have found,
which caused me some 'joy'; it was a 'plus'! !
It'd been six inches from my hand tool.
I dared not grab EITHER; I'm NO fool.
With spade, ten feet I carried,
leaving snake safe, not buried.
'Do unto others....' IS 'Golden Rule'!

bri edwards :)
That's it folks.
Entertaining and informative, all the limericks are a pleasure to read. The bird Baltimore Oriole's nest looks like the nest of a bird we call 'Bai chadhei'. I have only seen the nests hanging from the leaf stalks of high palm trees.I have never seen the bird.
Kudos for not killing the baby snake. I liked the two limericks about the bear best.
Good poem. Nature is the perfect company while we grow up. Top rate, Sure, Bri.
I have seen young black bear when I went to Smoky Mountains with my cousins. I encountered a lot of snakes of different kinds. We have a lot in tropical countries.
My 'understanding' is that you live in U.S. now. My Mom told me that when HER mom wore LONG dresses (and petticoats?) while tending a garden, snakes sometimes got into those clothes. Yikes.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
If nine limericks why not nine animals instead of seven? We want nine! We want nine! We want nine!
Keep your pants on, Belle. : ) NOW the limericks are all there, but.........i MIGHT write two more for YOU, maybe about bats, and maybe about hummingbirds?
