Poet of the River

Am I me? Are You You? (Thought)

I am me, I swear I am me!
If I was not, who would I be?
I cannot be you,
For you are not me.
What should I do?
How can we know?
How can we see?
How do we know that you are you,
And I am me?
If we are not, then who are we?

We are as clouds that veil the midnight moon;
How restlessly they speed, and gleam, and quiver,
Streaking the darkness radiantly!--yet soon
