A Sheltered Life Poem by Monica May

A Sheltered Life

Rating: 5.0

When I was a teenager living at home
I rebelled against restriction of freedom
Church and cultural had written in stone.
But my parents were determined
I shouldn’t do things that was hip and rife.
It made me so mad
having to live a sheltered life!

As time moved on, so did I:
I left school, got pregnant, married young;
The fire inside me slowly started to die.
Never having time for anything else
than working, nursing and being a wife.
It made me so sad
that I was still living a sheltered life!

But Time has been my tutor and it has taught me well
It has shown me life from different angles
And finally I am able to tell
That freedom is better to have in small doses;
too much could cut you like a knife.
I am so glad
that I have lived a sheltered life.

Wow. I absolutely love this poem Monica. No wonder you liked mine which is far less in depth. This is just beautiful.

Well, this poem is a great way to start my day. It is a circular poem. I love it. This is what writing is all about. Taking the reader on a journey and returning them safely home. What a pleasure to read this! GW62
