The Way Of The Warrior Poem by Edwina Reizer

The Way Of The Warrior

The way of the warrior
Steeped in conflict
Is a lonesome one indeed.
Involved in killing
And mortal combat,
He still must feel a need.
There’s a need in
Most of humanity
To want to live in peace
As they pray and plead with their God
To make war surcease.

But the warrior’s taught
Right from the start
That in order to succeed
He must forget the heart.
They’re contentious and
They forge ahead,
Looking past the fields of red.
Seeing only the valor
Of the act
Never understanding the full impact
Of what a warrior is.

The way of the true warriors
Are ones who live in peace.
They live in harmony,
Avoiding conflict
And never try to feast
On the spoils of war
Or what it stands for.
They’ve found a better way.
They wage their wars
On poverty, on ignorance and greed

On bigotry and inequity
And they do feel the need.
They live in peace and increase
Love instead of hate.
This is the way of the warrior
Whose courage tells a story
Of what it’s like to battle
For peace, not for glory.
