In The Midnight Hour Poem by Justin Gildow

In The Midnight Hour

In the midnight hour
This whole mansion where I live is
completely dark
Except for the lighting of a few candles

Walking up these steps
It feels like a thousand of them
But tonight
For some reason I don't mind
As it leaves me alone
Alone with my thoughts

There have been times tonight
When I've thought of you
And you haven't left my mind
In some ways, it's like a miserable
splendor
In some ways I'm grateful for that
In some ways I'm not

Continuing up the steps
I realize that the paintings hung
are still in wonderful condition

The many rows of books on the many
bookshelves
They hold both questions and answers
But they know all I am
Inside and out
The wind blows outside one of my
many windows
I can hear the wind
The branches from a tree sway in the wind

Continuing on my way up the steps
Peaceful slumber sounds so nice
I'm ready for it
And it's awaiting me
In the midnight hour
