Simon Lawson Poems

We fell in love too early it seemed,
The odds were against us.
The world; cruel and mean,
...

Tell me
Do birds think humans sing?
Do they say?
"Aye, wait for the murmuring of the humans"
...

The mind is a teacup.

Made of bone china, it can be chipped, broken if dropped.
...

I don't know why,
certain things are written
and others are not.
...

One must never be too busy for a poem,
or a good book,
for life is long but so is it short
and whilst a day with purpose is well spent
...

Love has stilled,
the waters of my heart.
Tamed the floods,
that shook the dry earth
...

7.

Coral under the sea,
grows beautiful and wild,
living for centuries.
...

Drain my mind
wont you?
With it the light
water will rush out,
...

If it ain't broke, don't fix it

I want to break into a million shards of glass
Everyone sees the splinters
they see the chips and scuffs on this old glass
...

Why am I surprised I feel a coot?
Like the ladybug that was my happiness,
Just got trodden on by a big, fat, wellington boot?
And that light-cutting black
...

In my old age I'll wear velvet and nap in the afternoon,
And sunken in a hammock, I won't bother worrying too soon.
In my old age I'll wear velvet, and walk along that bay,
Content in knowing I can waste away the day.
...

I'm a stalker I'll admit it
I'm obsessed beyond the sane
I run towards it, follow it,
think of it every hour of every day.
...

The body is a work of nerves

Electricity screaming through veins
...

Tell me do you love me?
In that all too cliché way?
My lips are rosebuds and fireworks play in your head?
From now until oblivion, and in life after death.
...

If I showed up, right now, at your door.
What would you do?
I don't mean the small-talk and wonder at my trans-locational appearance,
I'm talking
...

I missed the orange leaves
by the time I'd escaped my mind
they'd all fallen.
I trap myself in the same mind
...

I keep daring to live,
what other choice do I have,
death?
I am not a coward,
...

I Dare To Defy Fact

We fell in love too early it seemed,
The odds were against us.
The world; cruel and mean,

Just as we found each other,
And yet all we had to do was wait.
The splitting of our paths,
Was something we could anticipate.

Now I have to conjure,
The thought in my mind,
The horrible prospect,
Of someone else you will find.

But these fears are not founded,
on our love's reality.
We must keep our worries grounded,
and as such our love is free.

Facts torment us like paper cuts to the lungs,
They attempt to strangle a little bird,
Keep her song unsung.
But escape probability we have in every way,
And maybe if we're lucky,
This love can live to see another day.
