Woods Poem by April Pearl

Woods

The lovely falls, still sarrounded by fog,
Could hear the flow of water,
A different silence, Buzz of insects, chirping of birds,
It was a treat to the eyes.

I stepped into the water, a mermaid sprang out,
Her eyes still shut, pulled her hands up to remove the water from her hair,
Dusky complexion and perfect curves,
Like a picture perfect figure,
Her long hands and legs swept me off my feet, I stood there stunned.

Is it the falls that was breathtaking,
Or the woman that was captivating,
Or the deep woods that was seducing,
Or have I been drinking.

Everything looked mesmerising.
I felt afloat, sensed heaven,
As if I was sent here for a reason,
To start a fresh season.

Lived a life of menace,
Seemed burnt in a furnace,
City life had gotten me too old,
I felt a strong connection to the land.

Shocked, she slipped her foot,
Wrapped with a saree till her knee,
I held her around her waist,
Which was not deliberate,

Her face bent, her cheeks red,
Her body as soft as a flower,
Her light brown eyes,
The highlight of her pretty face,

Ran out of water, her anklets adding rhythm to the music around,
She turned back, ran again,
Followed her into the woods,
Like a bee searching for nectar.

Saw the colourful butterflies flutter,
That lovely green, I had never seen.
She stopped. I stopped, waiting to hear.
Would she give this thug a hug.

Ohh dear, my heart aches.
Her eyes said something.I followed the eyes.
Gosh! The tribal men.She the hunter and me the hunted.
Don't even know my way back.

A cave like place, they took me.
As we walked the heat increased burning me.
The end of the cave, before it a deathly pit.
Life coming to an end, where I thought my life would begin.

I had no clue of what was happening, Unable to understand their language, I freaked.
I pushed the men, fought them.
I planted a huge kiss cursing her beauty that landed me in trouble.

All the arrows pointing at me lowered.
The crazy men bent and bowed.
Lifted me and carried me.
I realised kissing was getting married.

I became her husband and the king of the clan.
I would never be one in the city.I never went back.
Lived the rest of my life here in this heaven with the beautiful maiden.
