Winter's Heart Poem by Keith Duperreault

Winter's Heart

Out in the snow, the hallowed wind sails forth upon my skies
and reaches forth on playful wings; a sun beyond the rise
of frosted banks and sparkled waves that move without a sound
that promises no warmer dawn beyond the twilight found
in beauty stilled with haunting chill; a portrait for no eyes
that gaze beyond the boundaries of this lonely paradise
in winter's heart, so nestled deep, a cradle beating cold
yet crisp and clear on stiffened years it's silence growing bold
as whispered breezes saunter out among the season's sleep
that dreams a quiet summer, should it's slumber come to seep
desires hidden quiet, low beneath the ebb and tide
that never flows out past the shore, should spring creep to it's side
for a colder envy settles deep within this frozen plane
that fears a heart that cannot feel the warmth to love again.
