Spring's Promise Poem by Keith Duperreault

Spring's Promise

This baited breath that sleeps no more awakens slow to sighs
which stir beneath the icy reach where blossoms yearn for skies
that bask within the lambent glow sent forth from distant flame;
from fire to spark, a converse lark, ignites life just the same
from slumbered seed and silent cries whose dawn awaits a sign
that winter's grasp, once evermore, has loosened for a time
so earthen sprouts can shed the frigid sheath that held a dream
locked up within a lullaby; rekindled to a scream
that echoes forth with nourished voice, beginnings to an end,
and calls upon a promise given; lies that life will mend
as nature's yawn is cast aside and springtime stretches through
a new found truth, embraced again, enjoys a life renewed
for a frozen heart must always thaw, that simple truth is told
so one can weather seasons bearing news of further cold.
